A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

CotCT Session 9
Summer of 4716 AR - A Sick Girl
  • The group is approached by Grau who requests they see his niece who is very sick.
  • Ishani, a cleric of Abadar is already there but is unable to heal Brienne without proper payment.
  • Valen and Starnok go to find a scroll of remove disease.
  • The two purchase a scroll and return to the house.
  • Ramiel trace Briennes steps and find a box along the shore containing a diseased rat. He makes the mistake of touching the creature and is filled with a terrible sensation of dread but manages to not contract any disease.
  • Valen attempts to heal Brienne but fails to use the scroll properly.
  • Out of options, and upset at religion in general, Julien pays the priest to heal Brienne.
  • Julien gives Brienne an apple.
  • Ishani disposes of the rat.
CotCT Session 8
Summer of 4716 AR - Party on the Wooly Cotton
  • A loud noise and a flash of light is seen falling into the bay late into the night, Valen and Ramiel investigate but are unable to learn anything of real value.
  • The next morning, Ramiel is contacted to meet Vencarlo Orisini at his academy.
  • Valen meets with Paulus and informs him of his sons’ eventual return and is referred to the blacksmith Rodney.
  • Valen meets with Rodney and requests a scimitar capable of lighting the way.
  • Ramiel sees Valen in Old Korvosa and the two visit Vencarlo together.
  • Vencarlo reveals that he is harboring Trinia Sabor and is a friend of Blackjack. He requests that the pair escort her out of the city.
  • Happy to oblige Ramiel and Valen carefully get Trinia out of the city. Happy to right their wrong in turning her into the guards in whatever way they can. The two apologize and get to know Trinia as they escort her to safety.
  • The pair then return to the dock area and throw a party with Salty Pete and the carpenters. It allows the two a nice chance to unwind after everything they have been through recently.
  • Ramiel and the others get drunk, but it is here that Valen realizes alcohol no longer effects him thanks to his paladin status.
CotCT Session 7
Summer of 4716 AR - Smuggler Caves
  • The party sets sail with “Salty” Pete on the Woolly Cotton to the caves outside of Korvosa in an attempt to find Paulus’s sons.
  • The notorious reefclaw known as Meatclaw attacks the ship but is driven off thanks to Starnok’s ranger training and Ramiel hurling the acid he found in the Dead Warrens at the beast.
  • The group infiltrates the smuggler’s cave and finds that one of Paulus’s sons named Steffan is sick.
  • Valen manages to heal Steffan and convince his brother Argos to return to his family.
  • Valen receives the Dawnflower Helmet as a reward.
CotCT Session 6
Summer of 4716 AR - The Execution
  • Valen and Ramiel go to Castle Korvosa to return the Queen’s brooch and find out about the execution planned for Trinia Sabor.
  • Valen and Ramiel are escorted by the queen’s personal guard, Sabina Merrin to meet with Queen Illeosa.
  • Starnok and Julien attempt to track the killer of Starnok’s family.
  • The pair take Robyn who now owns a flaming sword and find their way to the sewers where many members of the cerulean society are present.
  • A merchant informs Starnok that the purchaser he was searching for was a red mantis assassin.
  • The trio are approached by a red mantis assassin who offers to reveal the identity of her employer should they promise to assassinate them themselves.
  • Confused, Julien accepts the offer and is told that Starnok’s uncle employed the assassins.
  • Scared for their lives after making a deal with an assassin, the trio break into the house of Starnok’s uncle.
  • Starnok slays his uncle as the man attempts to dress up for the execution, the group proceeds to light the house on fire.
  • The party meet back up at the execution grounds.
  • Ramiel attempts to reach Rivana who calls out to him from a nearby rooftop but is unable to bluff his way past a guard securing entry.
  • The execution grounds are filled with citizens and everyone is shoulder to shoulder. The party feels helpless realizing that they are responsible for handing Trinia over to the guard and desperately wonder what they can do.
  • Suddenly when all looks grim, the vigilante known as Blackjack manages swoop in to save Trinia at the last moment. Everyone present is in awe and Ramiel’s inner fan boy shows. As Blackjack tries to whisk Trinia away the executioner behind him tries to strike him down. Ramiel calls out to Majenko to intervene and the pseudodragon headbutts the executioner giving Blackjack time to escape. With a wink to the group, Blackjack and Trinia vanish into a cloud of smoke.
CotCT Session 5
Summer of 4716 AR - Trinia Sabor
  • Cressida contacts the group of four with a mission to track down the king’s alleged assassin, Trinia Sabor.
  • The group manages to track the young artist down to an apartment flat near the shingles.
  • Julien, Robyn and Starnok manage to sneak into Trinia’s apartment.
  • Julien and Robyn loudly announce their presence as carpenters and begin to hammer on the wall.
  • Starnok eats a sandwich left on a table.
  • The group discovers that Trinia had sneaked out onto the shingles as they fooled around.
  • The trio follows Trinia onto the roof and begin to chase her, but not before stealing her savings.
  • Ramiel climbs up onto the shingles as well while Valen pursues from the ground and begins to remove his armor while running.
  • Julien tackles the painter and Starnok tells her that her parents are dead.
  • Between Starnok’s outlandish comment about her parents and Ramiel’s intimidating demeanor Trinia begins to cry.
  • The group proceeds to interrogate the girl more after clearing some things up and become convinced of her potential innocence.
  • Trinia is ultimately turned over to the guard as the group trusts her fate to the government.
CotCT Session 4
Summer of 4716 AR - Eel's End
  • Valen attempts to track down the source of shiver trade in Old Korvosa and make negotiations.
  • Cressida Kroft sends Valen, Julien and Ramiel on a diplomatic mission to find information on a Chelish ambassador and his dealings with the local drug lord Devargo.
  • Vencarlo Orisini escorts the group to Eel’s End. He is an Elven man known for his swordsmanship and is the owner of the Orisini Academy. He take an immediate interest in Ramiel once he hears about his goals and the two exchange words in Elven.
  • The group splits up to find information and heads to a bar called the Goldenhawk run by an old acquaintance of Valen’s named Tuggins. Tuggins is a gnome who knew Valen back when he was an addict so he is surprised to see that he is now a paladin.
  • Valen and Tuggins catch up while Ramiel downs some beer. Tuggins points them to investigate a tavern nearby where various types of people including nobles frequent. It is there that they might have a good opportunity to find a lead on Devargo.
  • While at this tavern Valen meets Paulus and Ramiel meets Rivana. Julien enters and is ready to get moving.
  • Julien goes on ahead after a plan to enter the Eel’s End is devised in an attempt to infiltrate through stealth. After his escapades at a gambling hall and brothel left him with nowhere else to go he is ready to begin.
  • After chatting a bit more with everyone of interest in the tavern, Ramiel and Valen branch off. Valen takes Robyn to Cressida to keep him safe and Ramiel heads to the Eel’s End to check on Julien.
  • Julien upsets Devargo and is currently fleeing for his life inside.
  • Ramiel can hear this and bluffs his way past a guard in order to get inside.
  • Ramiel asks Devargo to spare Julien’s life since he is just a boy, but Devargo’s pride is on the line and he will not negotiate. Ramiel and Devargo then begin to fight once Ramiel realizes it is the only option.
  • Above them is a trapped pseudodragon in a cage that telepathically speaks to Ramiel asking for help.
  • Ramiel beings to overpower the man but is sent down a trapdoor despite being warned by the pseudodragon above. Devargo had managed to pull a lever that opened a door that led into a pitch black room full of spiderwebs below.
  • Julien is still hiding from Devargo’s men as they try and find him to bring to their leader.
  • Around this time Valen manages to make it to the Eel’s End only to find his comrades are nowhere to be seen. He approaches the guard at the door and attempts to get inside but the guard isn’t going to make the same mistake again and refuses him entry despite Valen’s pleas.
  • Meanwhile at the bottom of the ship Ramiel is attacked by a spider like monster known as an ettercap, but manages to defeat it after breaking into a lantern lit room so he could see and keep the monster at bay thanks to its fear of light.
  • Valen is eventually forced to infiltrate by force and takes out the guard out front. Upon seeing another intruder Devargo begins fighting with Valen. Around this time Julien manages to sneak by his pursuers and help Valen fight Devargo. Julien takes aim and deals the killing blow.
  • Valen is furious at Julien once this happens realizing the entire plan has blown up in his face.
  • Julien storms off and finds some documents in Devargo’s room. He has no interest in them but Ramiel who has now managed to stumble across him and takes them.
  • The three are now together at the scene of the murder and discuss their next steps. Ramiel presents Valen with the documents Julien found in hopes of calming him down. Julien manages to free the pseudodragon from its cage and it perches on Ramiel’s shoulder.
  • The pseudodragon’s name is Majenko and it vows to serve Ramiel.
  • Julien meanwhile uses the dream spider webbing to light the ship on fire and the entire ships goes up in blazes. Valen and Ramiel are forced to jump out in the last second before being engulfed in the fire themselves.
  • With some of the documents recovered the mission wasn’t a complete failure, but Cressida was not overall approving of the outcome.
CotCT Session 3
Summer of 4716 AR - The Cow Hammer Boys
  • Ramiel seeks the identity of his brother Meta’s killer and is lead to investigate the Cow Hammer Boys who can be found at an old butchery known as “All the Worlds Meat”.
  • The group infiltrates through the back of the warehouse after a massive group of starving citizens out front block a direct way in.
  • While inside Starnok bravely jumps into a rancid pit of meat and body parts in order to get a closer inspection of what the Cow Hammer Boys are up to.
  • The pit is riddled with disease but Starnok fortunately avoids any harm as Ramiel pulls him out of the filth.
  • The group manages to gain the attention of the workers inside the butchery and a fight takes place. The workers are dealt with and hung on meat hooks for interrogation.
  • Julien and Starnok stay to question the workers while Ramiel and Valen continue to search the rest of the building.
  • Julien takes on a sinister persona in his interrogation techniques in order to get the guards to reveal the truth. Starnok can only watch as Julien bombards the guards with various twisted threats. From this day forward Starnok is frightened of Julien and decides not to cross him.
  • The guards reveal that the food is people.
  • Ramiel and Valen find the leader of the group upstairs. His name is Verrick and after a long brawl filled with tackles and slams, he turns himself in after hearing the actions of his underlings.
  • Ramiel and Valen bring Verrick down below and find Starnok and Julien with the workers in the freezer. One of the captured thugs admits to killing Ramiel’s brother. The thug relishes in recounting how he killed him and imagines what he would have tasted like. Ramiel fights back the urge to cave this man’s head in with his hammer and decides that rotting in prison would be a much more fitting way for him to die.
CotCT Session 2
Summer of 4716 AR - The Dead Warrens
  • News of the king’s death reaches the streets.
  • The PCs return to the citadel the morning after Laam’s demise and meet with Field Marshall Cressida Kroft.
  • After seeing the potential this group possesses, Kroft employs the PCs to aid a Shoanti man named Thousand Bones in recovering his grandson’s remains from the Gray District.
  • In the Gray District’s graveyard is where an entrance through a mausoleum is discovered. The party heads down a trap door and descends into what is known as the “Dead Warrens”.
  • The group encounter many bizarre monsters and disturbing experiments while down here. The tunnels are filled with creatures called Derro who are small blue skinned menaces that delight in torture and experimentation.
  • Ramiel picks up a bottle of acid from an alchemy room.
  • Julien’s younger brother, Robyn is found within the dead warrens where a necromancer has taken up residence. This necromancer is currently nowhere to be seen.
  • Eventually the party finds the various pieces of the body they were sent to recover and reattach the limbs after dealing with giant stirges, flesh golems and an orgekin.
  • Thousand Bones presents the party with a symbol of his tribe as thanks.
CotCT Session 1
Summer of 4716 AR - Gaedren Laam
  • Our four heroes are introduced:

- Julien – A daring young man with a roguish background. Growing up in the Shingles as an orphan, he is someone who knows how to get around the shadier parts of Korvosa. With his kid brother Robyn now missing, he seeks out leads on his whereabouts desperate to find the only family he has left.

- Ramiel – A large half-elf who lets his hammer and intimidating presence speak for him. With his no nonsense nature and strength, Ramiel works as a bodyguard, but has dreams of becoming a hero like his childhood idol Blackjack one day. Recently with the death of his brother Meta, the path to being a hero has now opened as he seeks out answers.

- Starnok – A currently disheveled nobleman accused of murdering his parents. Starnok is an ex-member of the Stable Company who understands the inner workings of the city and the royal families throughout. Now keeping to the sewers among the filth and many rats, this noble hides from prosecution and looks for any opportunity to clear his name.

- Valen – A chipper paladin of Sarenrae with a unfortunate past of drug abuse. Valen is on the upswing and is climbing out of the shambles his addiction had put him in with the help of his faith. Through the Dawnflower, he now uses the his many blessings to crack down on the rampant drug problem in Korvosa that he is all too familiar with.

  • The four PCs meet with Zellara, a fortune teller that had sent them all letters in regards to their current predicaments. All the groups problems apparently can be tied in one way or another with the deplorable man known as Gaedren Laam. Zellara tells the group about the old fishery where Laam can be found.
  • As the group arrives at the location, Valen leaves Starnok his lantern as he and Ramiel investigates the building Zellara led them to in hopes of confronting Laam.
  • The building is guarded by a Half-orc named Giggles who isn’t keen on letting the party inside.
  • Through brute force Ramiel breaks down the door and the party manages to subdue Giggles.
  • The search for Laam begins as the party makes their way down an elevator to the bottom floor.
  • Ramiel is attacked by a crocodile that jumps out of a large hole in the floor but is able to defeat it before it pulled him into the water below.
  • A struggle ensues as Gaedren is finally found in his room, but he manages to escape as he jumps into the bay.
  • The party jumps into the water after Gaedren in hot pursuit.
  • Julien is attacked by a Jigsaw shark but manages to escape.
  • Gaedren is eventually slain by an arrow fired by Starnok.
  • The party searches Gaedren’s room and finds a chest. Julien is able to pick its lock and inside finds a variety of valuable items. Items of special interest include a brooch belonging to Queen Ileosa and Zellara’s harrow deck.
  • Valen’s lantern is nowhere to be found as the party departs from the fishery.
  • Now heading back to speak with Zellara and tell her the dead is done, the party encounters her ghost. She had been dead the entire time and reached out to the group from the dead. She had been a victim of Gaedren herself.
  • With her power she blesses the harrow deck the party recovered allowing them to go beyond their limits in difficult situations.
  • Little did Zellara and the group realize, but being brought together in this manner would set in motion the fate of all Korvosa.
